Yet another reason why Texas should have a humongous wall built around it to contain the crazies that live there:
Texas crowd kills man after car hits kid
AUSTIN, Texas - A crowd attacked and killed a passenger in a vehicle that had struck and injured a child, police said Wednesday.
Police believe 2,000 to 3,000 people were in the area for a Juneteenth celebration when the attack occurred Tuesday night. The man who was killed had been trying to stop the group from attacking the vehicle's driver when the crowd turned on him, authorities said.
The Austin Police Department identified the victim as David Rivas Morales, 40. The child was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police spokeswoman Toni Chovonetz said she had no further information, including how many people were involved.
The driver was able to get away from the crowd and is cooperating with investigators, police said.
Juneteenth marks the day Gen. Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston in 1865 to share news of the Emancipation Proclamation, which freed slaves two years earlier on Jan. 1, 1863.
So...I'm guessing they were pissed anyway about the whole Juneteenth concept, and they were looking for a riot waiting to happen. Texas really is 'like a whole 'nother country', just like they say on the commercials...

Ahhh, Lifehouse....
So I saw Lifehouse in March at the Tempe Music Festival, and it was just as amazing as I thought it would be. They are playing Dodge Theater tonite tho, and I won't be in attendance. Sad Sad Day in Jannaland :-(
....But their new album is coming out on Tuesday, so guess what I'll be doing at 11:59 Monday eve?!?!
Yep, You know it :-D
PS...INCUBUS will be here in September, and you betta believe I WILL be in attendance for that!

why, hellooooooooooooo there
Today I'm thinking about opportunities. I hate my job, ergo my life. No, I don't consider my job my life, HOWEVER, the job is what funds the life, so you see, they are intricately related. I have been applying for lots of other jobs, but nothing has really struck my fancy yet. I guess I don't really know what I want to do with myself, and until I figure that out, I might as well be making as much as possible wherever I can, since I won't be enjoying it anyway. Small condolences, eh?
My Aunt works for Farmer's Insurance, and she has given them my resume and says I will be getting a call in a couple weeks when they start interviewing. I don't know if I would love that job, but there are a number of benefits to me working there. First of all, it is closer to home than my current employer. Also, I would probably get a company car. And while it will in no way compare to the motoring experience I enjoy with the Mini (love you Bambi McBimbo!), this will save miles on her (and if they paid for gas that would be even better!). Finally, there is a mixed bag of good benefits, such as the usual health insurance stuff, plus an actual pension plan that allows employees to retire in 15 years if they wish, and my Aunt gets to work at home sometimes if she wants to.
Anyhoo, that is all for now. Rot in the clink, Paris Skanton :-D

A Bane on Humanity...and by Humanity, I mean WOMEN
Bane
1. a person or thing that ruins or spoils:
Fabulous word. Totally fitting for the topic of today's diatribe: MEN.
So what is it with men and being thoughtful/romantic? There are a few times per year when it is absolutely mandatory (Valentine's Day, anniversary, birthday, etc) yet so many guys are just totally clueless about it. The excuse I got yesterday after my observation of "You just aren't very romantic are you?" was "I try to be...I just don't know what to do..." This was later in the evening after he had received a card and some candy from me first thing in the morning. Yet I didn't get so much as a "Happy Valentine's Day."
Give me a break! I told him that anything out of the ordinary that would make me happy falls under the umbrella term 'romantic'. Will it change anything? Probably not. Men are just self-absorbed beasts most of the time, so what is the point of even trying or taking it personally? It's just a damn shame.

A Strange (but lucky) Occurrence
Recently my younger brother and I were talking about how we wonder how many family members on our dad's side are out there that we don't even know about. See, our deadbeat dad left when we were really little and we haven't seen him since, so we know zilch about that side of the family. A few years ago I had done a google search of our last name and found the name and email address of a relative in texas who was a teacher, Jill, but I'd never contacted her. How was I sure that she was related, you ask? Well, when the last name is Wolosonovich, there's a pretty good chance that all of us are related :-D
I told Josh this, and he looked her up and actually contacted her. She turned out to be the ex-wife of one of my dad's brothers, and she has 2 sons that live in Texas also, Eric and Scott. Turns out they grew up the same way as us, with no father around taking care of his responsibilities. Josh inspired me to do my own search and see who I could locate, and to my surprise I found the work phone number of a Wolosonovich right here in Tempe! I called and left a voicemail with my name, phone number, and email address, and soon thereafter received an email from what turned out to be my Uncle Mark! He is not close to the rest of his family and has kept his distance by choice.
So last Friday I met his wife, my Aunt Joy, for lunch here in Mesa, and we really hit it off and had a great time. This led to an invitation to their home yesterday to meet Mark, which was a great experience :-D
We are going over again next Sunday for brunch and just more general getting-to-know-each-other activities.
In effect, I just think it is really amazing that something inspired me and Josh to dig up a little information, and I am glad that we got such positive results so far. I think it will be great for all of us to get to know eachother and discover that there is some good in this family, despite the past injustices we have all had to deal with.
